Seeking a Public Works Estimator to join our Estimating team at Coastal Paving & Excavating Inc.

As a member of the department, this individual will coordinate with other estimators, project managers, and superintendents, making sure scheduled projects are completed in a timely manner that also adheres to the specific instructions and demands of the project.

This individual will provide accurate, timely, and complete estimates for civil work prime contracts with public agencies, focusing on paving, grading, and concrete estimations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Able to accurately prepare timely estimates, including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
  • Coordinate quantity take-off with take-off department, highlight job specifics including phasing, details, job site conditions, etc.
  • Review job specifications, drawings, schedules, soil reports, and other documents to prepare accurate scope and pricing
  • Ability to discuss and negotiate scope, pricing, inclusions, and exclusions with general contractors and owners

Qualifications

  • Degree in Construction Management or related field (not required)
  • 7+ years Estimating/Construction Management
  • Knowledge of General Engineering estimating, including Grading and Paving.

Our established paving and excavating company is growing and we have an excellent opportunity for a Working Foreman in Underground Construction to join our team of paving professionals.

We specialize in Excavation/Installation/Repair of Wet Utilities (Sewer, Water, Storm Drain) and Dry Utilities (Cable/TV/PG&E & Gas) on our residential, public, and commercial projects. We are in search of a hard-working professional who can meet challenges and exceed customer expectations. We need a self-motivated, energetic, team leader who can manage several crews to ensure projects will be completed.

We need a hard-working foreman with a vast knowledge of excavation for pipeline trenches. They must have experience working on construction sites, have a clean driving record, and a knowledge of OSHA safety standards and procedures.

The job candidate must have at least (3) years of experience as an underground utilities foreman and at least (5) years of experience in the trade.

Please do not apply if you do not have direct experience in this particular trade. You must be able to either lay pipe or operate equipment as this position is for a working foreman. You must be very organized with an unwavering eye for detail. You have to be ready to jump in and get your hands dirty.

Example of Qualifications & Duties: Must be proficient with utility standards and requirements, experience in CATV/Phone, PG&E, So Cal Gas, Sewer, Water, and Storm Drains. Able to read and decipher Individual Utility Plans and Composites. Must be able to perform daily field inspections of construction operations to ensure work is being completed in compliance with project specifications and monitor safe work practices. Must be willing to perform all aspects of the job (Hand Digging, Backfill, Equipment Operation, Pipefitting, Underground Pipe Installation, Asphalt/Concrete, etc). Ability to read and interpret grade instruments (tape measures, grade rods, levels, and lasers).

Ability to locate, avoid, and protect existing underground utilities. Basic knowledge of soil types, trenching and shoring per OSHA regulations. Ability to work in trench boxes, in deep excavations, and in confined spaces. Trenching, V-ditches, shoring, etc. Review daily production reports, material usage, tracking of hours worked. Willingness to work shifts as assigned, including daily overtime and weekends when necessary.

Install, maintain, and repair components of a water service distribution system, including valves, mains, fire hydrants, and a variety of meters, gauges, and flow monitoring devices. Locate and fix water main leaks, including repair of pipes; flush mains to clear lines and provide water clarity and provide sufficient water pressure. Set up and work traffic control.

Clean work vehicles; stock vehicles with parts and materials according to service order needs. Respond as needed to customer concerns in the field.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and clients. Perform building and grounds maintenance, as assigned. Trained in Gas Safety is a plus. OSHA 30 Safety Training.

Physical Requirements: Must be capable of working outdoors and handle all types of weather conditions. Physical requirements are a must, like being able to bend, squat and kneel, and climb ladders and scaffolding. Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds without assistance.

Required Skills: Must possess a clean background check and a current driver’s license with a clean driving record. Must be able to speak and understand English, and must have experience leading and working with a construction crew. Must have experience working with pipe fittings and working with Underground and Above Ground Utilities (Gas, Water, Sewer, Electrical). Must be a responsible and punctual employee.

Coastal Paving & Excavation Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Asphalt Paving Estimator. This individual will be responsible for preparing and developing bids and estimates for new and current clients. This opportunity is excellent for a professional, dependable, and responsible individual.

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ability to review proposal specifications and construction drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Accurately price and estimate asphalt paving work with an emphasis in the commercial sector along with residential and municipal DOT work.
  • Attend bid meetings, site visits, and complete plan take-offs.
  • Obtain favorable quotes with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Communicating effectively with all internal and external stakeholders; including but not limited to fellow employees, operations, subcontractors, customers, and on-site personnel.
  • Perform additional assigned tasks per supervisor’s direction.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating.
  • Experience with estimating and/or project management in asphalt paving is preferred.
  • Accurately read plans, proficient with computer skills and applications such as MS Outlook, MS Office, and Adobe.
  • Knowledge of SharpeSoft estimating software is a plus.
  • Experience with CDOT and Municipal work is preferred but not required.

We are seeking an experienced Sealcoat Foreman to supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in sealcoating, crack sealing, and striping parking lots and driveways.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with the job.
  • Training new crew members to perform jobs as necessary
  • Managing job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules
